I found this today in my small carry-on Bible … hand-written on a piece of thin paper with the COTR Theological Seminary (Visakhapatnam, India) logo on it.  It took me a few minutes … but I remember writing a Bible study or sermon outline based on 2 Timothy 2:2 while waiting for my M.Div. class, to finish their final!  Here are my notes …

2 Timothy 2:2, “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful menwho will be able to teach others also.”

PORTRAIT OF A LEADER

Reading in in 2 Timothy (2:2-26) you find the following picture of a leader.

TEACHER (v2)              reproductive … multiply and not add

SOLDIER (3-4)             loyal … to God’s Word

ATHLETE (5)                disciplined … works hard

FARMER (6-7)              hard worker … removes rocks … plows… plants … etc

WORKER (15-19)         diligent … with God as boss

VESSEL (20-22)           pure … see 1 John 1:9

SERVANT (23-26)                 submissive … not to others … but to God

PRIORITIES OF A LEADER

Jumping ahead a bit to 2 Timothy 4:1-8 you find your calling as a leader:

PREACH THE WORD      (1-2)

DO THE WORK             (3-5)
