A new book, “Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure,” asked writers and celebrities to describe their lives in six words. Some good examples come from essayist Chuck Klosterman: Nobody cared, then they did. Why? And comedian Stephen Colbert said: Well, I thought it was funny. The editors of the book—Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser—said they got the idea from a legend about Ernest Hemingway, who supposedly was challenged to write a novel in only six words and came up with “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”
